InScribe 2004SE

InScribe 2004SE from Saqqara Technology is the second edition of the popular Word Processor for Egyptian Hieroglyphs, InScribe 2004. This new edition includes support for Egyptian Hieroglyph and Transliteration additions to Unicode available in Unicode 5.2, the latest version of the International Standard for characters and scripts (5.2 release is expected October 2009). This is an important step toward making Ancient Egyptian more accessible in digital applications.

The main goals with this release were twofold. Firstly to maintain the InScribe 2004 methodology so as to require virtually no learning curve for current users. Secondly to provide an extremely high level of compatibility for '.InScribe' documents and embedded texts in applications such as Word and Open Office Writer. In virtually all circumstances this means users can upgrade immediately and continue with any work in progress.

InScribe 2004SE has an updated user interface and a set of changes to make it an up to date Windows Vista/Windows 7 style application (XP is also supported).

A range of features from the (unreleased) InScribe 2008 have been implemented in 2004SE. These include elements to facilitate work with other software, including InScribeX Web and InScribe 3.

2004SE is being prepared and tested for a July 2009 (or possibly August) release to the current InScribe Beta Program.

InScribe 2004SE documentation and references to be added here in the near future (16th June 2009).

InScribe users range from amateur and academic students of Egyptology through to professional Egyptologists and Historians. Applications range from personal use through to thesis writing, academic publications and professionally typeset books.
