2009 Activities
InScribeX Web. A technical preview is available to use at www.inscribex.com and regular updates are expected. IXW is open to all but the preview is especially aimed at InScribe users and members of the InScribe Beta program.
InScribe 2004SE. This Second Edition of InScribe 2004 is a significant update with Unicode 5.2 support and a new look. Expected release to members of the Beta Program July/August 2009. The InScribe 2004 way of working is virtually unchanged and there is a very high level of compatibility to make this a simple update for current users.
InScribe 3. Introduces new ways of working with Ancient Egyptian and a larger repertoire of hieroglyphs (the full set from EGPZ 1.0 which includes the Unicode 5.2 reperoire). There is full compatibility with the previously released 'InScribe 2008' hieroglyph fonts. A beta version is now expected in Autumn with release to follow before the end of the year.
Objectives
Originally what was envisaged was a single successor to InScribe 2004. This approach gave a number of practical difficulties, especially for experienced users of InScribe 2004 where the number of changes would make it difficult to upgrade mid-project.
The solution was to move to this three part approach. The InScribe user will have three tools available InScribeX Web, InScribe 2004SE, and InScribe 3, all up to date and designed to work together.
For instance for someone writing a thesis or book who has used InScribe 2004 for hieroglyphs, the simplest approach is to upgrade to 2004SE and continue as before, possibly using InScribeX Web as a helper. InScribe 3 can be introduced into the process as convenient and useful to the user.
The main objective of the Beta program is to enable InScribe users to ahve early access to this new way of working with InScribe.
