Version 1.0 of EGPZ, the unofficial standard for hieroglyphs in Unicode, is now available (see www.egpz.com). Also announced is the EGPZ Word List Project which aims to make available a large list of Ancient Egyptian words in Unicode and Manuel de Codage (MdC) formats. - InScribe 2008 fonts released

The first hieroglyphic fonts for Unicode are released today by Saqqara. Implementation uses EGPZ 1.0 (see www.egpz.com). The new fonts enable ways of working with hieroglyphs as text, enabling a range of new applications. Transliteration features of the upcoming Unicode 5.1 are also supported. Plus experimental versions of fonts conforming with the current state of the proposed inclusion of Egyptian Hieroglyphs in Unicode 5.2.
